Today Tottenham go to Stamford Bridge where they have won once in 32 years. Their last win came in 2018 against Antonio Conte’s Chelsea. Normally going to the Bridge is a rough outing for Spurs, and the travelling away fans almost never have anything to shout about.

Back in 2016, Spurs famously drew 2-2 with Chelsea, killing Tottenham’s title hopes and handing Leicester City the title in a remarkable fashion. The game took a nasty turn after Chelsea cancelled out Tottenham’s 2-0 lead, several fights broke out and a record breaking 13 yellow cards. 9 of which were Spurs players. It’s safe to say things got ugly. That game epitomised everything that this fixture is all about. At the end of the day, it’s a London Derby, and both clubs want to win.

Our opposition, Chelsea are off the back of a decent start to the season with a 1-0 win at Goodison Park. Which is a tough place to go, however you could say Chelsea’s performance was somewhat anticlimactic considering the transfer window they have had. Spurs come into this fixture off the back of a really encouraging display over Southampton, who aren’t the toughest opposition, but we played well regardless. Chelsea have many players to look out for, but one to look out for is new marquee signing, Raheem Sterling. He was one of Chelsea’s standout players against Everton and impressed on his debut. Either of our wing backs could be in a for a tough afternoon against the Chelsea wingers, as they will look to overload our channels with their wing backs, helping create a numerical advantage. Much like Conte’s system.

In this fixture it always seems that Chelsea go up a gear, so I’m pretty apprehensive despite our encouraging display against Southampton. I have very mixed feelings heading into this one, but I certainly believe it is possible for us to get a result, let’s just wait and see. If there was ever a time to beat Chelsea, it would be now.

Let’s wait and see what happens. COYS!
